Lim Yong Jia (Kenny) holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from Middlesex University London and Masters of Music Performance from Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD). During his studies in Middlesex University he had studied under the celebrated British clarinetists Janet Hilton, while in RWCMD Kenny studied closely with the musicians of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales: Robert Plane (Principal clarinet) and John Cooper (2nd and Eb clarinet). He also studied with Timothy Lines and Alison Lambert (Bass clarinet). In the past, Kenny had the chance to receive personal tutorship from international artists such as Gonzalo Esteban, Jose Garcia Taborda, Giovanni Punzi and Lawrence Fong. He also participated in master class by Michael Collins and Yehuda Gilad.

         As the fortunate receiver of the Malaysian ABRSM Winds Prize in 2015, Kenny used the funds received to attend Silpakorn Summer Music School in Thailand and received personal tutorship from Dr. Yos Vaneesorn. He also performed 3 solo recitals and gave master classes across Malaysia in that year. Kenny also performed in various orchestras including the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, KLpac Orchestra, Philharmonic Winds of Malaysia, KLCO Orchestra, Tutan Festival Orchestra, RWCMD Symphony and RWCMD winds ensemble. Aside from orchestral and large ensemble, Kenny is also a keen chamber musician and have been organising chamber music projects since 2019.

In addition to his performing career, Kenny is currently a music lecturer at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT). He is also pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Music Performance Studies at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris under the supervision of Dr. Tham Horng Kent. Beyond performance and teaching, Kenny is a member of Dr. Yap Kar Hui’s research team, contributing to studies in reminiscence music therapy.
